New App Calculates Pool Pad Energy Savings

Hayward unveils first-of-its-kind online tool to determine energy savings for pool products.

ELIZABETH, NJ (January 18, 2013) Hayward Pool Products has unveiled a first-of-its-kind software app that will allow pool professionals and owners to calculate the energy usage and potential savings of their swimming pool products. The easy-to-use Energy Solutions Calculator app computes the estimated savings by switching to Hayward Energy Solutions products, including the EcoStar® family of variable-speed pool pumps. Additionally, the app will demonstrate how much more can be saved by transitioning other Hayward energy-efficient solutions such as: cleaners, heat pumps or heaters, automation, LED lighting or filters.

According to Mike Massa, Vice President – Sales, the app is intended to help pool owners save money and lower their carbon footprint. “Clearly, we want to demonstrate the potential savings pool owners can realize by switching to one or more of Hayward’s entire suite of Energy Solutions products. Ultimately, we are hoping to raise pool owner’s and operator’s awareness of what is possible in terms of both energy and cost savings. The Energy Solutions Calculator mobile app is a very effective tool for dealers in their stores and tradesmen in backyards. They can show pool owners what they can expect to save with our Energy Solutions.”

The app is now available for free download at the U.S. Apple Store for the iPad, as well as at http://www.hayward.com.

To use the Energy Solutions Calculator, pool pros and owners start by simply choosing their state of residence. The app then estimates parameters that the user can adjust to their specific situation. These options include: horsepower of current pump; average daily run time of pool; rate currently paid for electricity (in dollars per kilowatt-hours); size of pool in gallon; and approximate length of pool season.

Using this information, the app will demonstrate how much can be saved in energy costs by switching to Hayward's EcoStar variable-speed pump and other Energy Solutions. Users can even test a simulation of the pumps actual control panel, allowing them to adjust the pump to different speeds by simply sliding the app buttons to view actual savings when operating the pump at different speeds. This further helps users appreciate the tremendous energy savings potential when running pumps at lower speeds.
